There's an old saying 'put on your own oxygen mask first', and this is especially true when it comes to dealing with family members and close friends suffering from substance use disorder. As a mother of a person in recovery, and as a street outreach coordinator, Patti Bannister offers offers some insights as to dealing with dependents in active addiction, or early recovery.
